215 cummins overheat

hi fellas..2010 215 first problem 180 hours...motoring along full revs 10 minutes and overheat alarm came on ...no water from exhaust ..steam only ..lowered revs and water started pumping again...lifted hatch ..noticed the seawater strainer was not full completely and had air in it...does exchanger require more water as revs are increased ..when i increased revs to max again watched temp gauge rise beyond normal ..went back to 2000 revs ..no problem ..water pumping normally..bottom of hull is covered in algae/weed etc ..am taking out next week to a/foul..could a partially blocked seawater intake cause this prob/?faulty impeller/ ...or is it air getting in somewhere ?strainer ..note ...water stops from exhaust only on full revs ..any replies appreciated..
